Anyone else spot the multi-million pound change in the RBWM Budget Report 2019-20?

I was reading yesterday’s press release on the RBWM council’s agreed budget for 2019/20 and spotted a huge increase in the proposed budget from only a month ago!

Click the above link, go to page 3 and you’ll see…

5. Together with brought forward capital spend on previously approved investments, plus estimated capital investments likely to come forward for approval during 2019/20, it is projected that total Council borrowing could increase from the £57 million forecast at the end of 2018/19 up to £85.1 million at the end of 2019/20.

Last month’s proposed budget for 2019-20 reads thus…

5. Together with brought forward capital spend on previously approved investments, plus estimated capital investments likely to come forward for approval during 2019/20, it is projected that total Council borrowing could increase from the £57 million forecast at the end of 2018/19 up to £80.4 million at the end of 2019/20.

So the RBWM “overdraft” has been increased by £4,700,000 in just 1 month!

Do we want our RBWM council to be £100,000,000+ in debt by the end of next year?

It does make me wonder if each town should have its own council, with Windsor people responsible for Windsor’s budgetary needs and those in Maidenhead responsible for their town, in the same way we have two separate MPs.

What’s your take on this apparent care free spending of our resources by our elected representatives?
