RBWM Climate Emergency Coalition Rally 24th May 12pm – 2pm

As you may be aware, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has warned that we have just 11 years left to prevent 1.5 degrees warming; warming beyond 1.5 degrees represents a threat to the future of humanity, and even warming limited to that level will wreak havoc upon the livelihoods of countless people across the world.

Join other like-minded individuals as the RBWM Climate Emergency Coalition, with the objective of campaigning to have RBWM declare an Environment and Climate Emergency under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004. We are hoping to have the Emergency declared as early as June 2019.

Declaring a Climate Emergency will then give RBWM 6 months to develop a plan by which they will become carbon neutral by 2030.

There are three things that you can do to help:

1. 1,500 petition signatures are needed for the debate to take place in Council. We currently have almost 1,200 (532 online and approximately 650 on paper). We are hoping to exceed the 1,500 target with ease and so if you haven’t done so already, please sign the Coalition’s petition which can be found on the RBWM website by clicking on the link below:

2. Of the 41 Councillors elected on 2nd May, 26 have signed the petition and 15 haven’t. We will be pushing hard to have as many Councillors sign before the motion is debated and would be very grateful if you could write to your Councillors asking them to sign the petition and to vote in favour of the motion when it comes before the Council.

I’m pleased to be able to confirm that all of the West Windsor Councillors have signed.

3. The Coalition is holding a rally at the Town hall in Maidenhead on Friday 24th May between 12 noon and 2 pm. This will be the third to be held and they have been friendly and peaceful affairs. We hope to see you there.
