Be Part of Clewer & Dedworth Projects

RBWM West Windsor Wards 2019-23 Councillors

Community groups and residents have their say in Clewer and Dedworth

In September we launched five community response groups. These bring members of the Windsor community together with councillors and representatives from local organisations to make decisions on how to make the area a great place to live, for all.

Since September, the five groups – covering community empowerment, health and wellbeing, employment, community safety and physical environment – have met twice and great progress is already being made. The groups are still welcoming new members and anyone who wants to get involved is encouraged to send their interest to Community Development Officer, Danielle, at Danielle.lane@abri.co.uk

Although only two months in, we’re excited to share the outline of a handful of projects that are now in the initial planning stages. We want to know how you, the community, feel about these ideas, so please do get in touch with us on Facebook or with Danielle over email.

Supporting Young People
Guided by residents and local organisations, our Community Empowerment Group would like to provide and promote a series of workshops and events to support young people and children with additional needs. 4motion, Youth Engagement Services, Green Earth Plan, Aik Saath, Family Friends and Windsor Leisure Centre will work with us to deliver a quarterly programme of sessions that young people can attend and enjoy, while increasing their confidence and learning key skills.
We welcome thoughts, ideas and suggestions on this – get in touch to let us know if you think this is a good idea.

Promoting a Green Community
Our Physical Environment Group is passionate about making Clewer and Dedworth a great, green place to be. We want to reduce waste and promote a healthy lifestyle, helping people to be proud of where they live.
Our initial ideas include planting a fruit orchard, plotting biodiverse areas to encourage and support wildlife and installing bird boxes for nesting. We’re working with Green up my Street and Plastic Free Windsor to shape these projects alongside other organisations, but what do you think? Let us know.

Pointing You in the Direction of Jobs and Training
There’s a great amount of employment support available in the community, from digital workshops to work academies with guaranteed job interview opportunities. But our Employment Group has noticed that it’s not always clear what’s on offer.
To improve this, we thought it would useful to create an online directory which points people to the help and services on offer in their local area and support professionals and organisations with the best information too.
What do you think? And what would you like to be included? Pop us an email or get in touch on Facebook to let us know.

Supporting Mental Health and Transport
Our Community Safety Group are aware that there’s been an increase in anti-social behaviour among local young people. This has been linked to a decrease in positive mental health, due to the challenges 2020 has posed.
We know that exercise is a great way to boost mental and physical health and taking part in empowering activities improves wellbeing too. So we are working with the Maidenhead Cycle Club, local charity in the community, The Swan, and Driven Forward to offer free Dr Bike safety check sessions available for anyone in the area to book onto. Maidenhead Cycle Hub also offer low-cost bikes from their shop.
Alongside what’s already on offer, we are looking at providing workshops to upskill the community as well as sessions with Bike Register and Thames Valley Police to promote bike safety. As well as supporting wellbeing cycling can provide a cheap and environmentally friendly mode of transport.
Let us know what you think.

These projects, and any that are offered in the future, are for the community. So your ideas are needed to help shape them. With your guidance we hope to bring your ideas to life and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

If you’d like to know more about any of these projects don’t hesitate to contact Danielle at Danielle.lane@abri.co.uk
