Dave Wood, St Peter’s C Of E Middle School, Old Windsor popped into Tesco Dedworth on Monday morning and was the first school to collect 50 books from our “library” supplied by customers.
We launched the “Books for Schools” appeal on Burns Night, 25th Jan, looking to end on Shakespeare’s birthday 23rd April. Since then a trolley in the exit area has been filled 3x by kindly customers looking to clear their bookshelves.
The original idea was around educational books, those for the syllabus that have been used by students who have now moved on other things… the reality is we are getting more fun read books but that’s good because we’re hearing it is more about encouraging kids to read.
“Hi Jon
We are delighted with the books my colleague collected this morning.
A big thank you to Tesco Dedworth and its customers who donated books for local schoolchildren. St Peter’s CE Middle School, Old Windsor, was delighted to receive 50 top quality good-as-new books for its 8-13 year olds, to add to its growing library. Having a wide range of books for children of all reading abilities encourages them to get lost in the worlds of discovery and adventure and encourages them to read more and more for pleasure. Thank you!
Best wishes
Emma Wood
Head’s PA”
Dave said these books would have cost the school around £7 each, that’s a saving of £350 for the school so far 😉

I have emailed 20+ schools in Windsor and the surrounding area twice, 8 have responded so far to say they’d like to be part of the scheme and they were invited at 8:08am yesterday morning to arrange to come in and collect a few books each.
I’m hoping that by posting this blog, parents of schools who haven’t stepped up will be encouraged to do so. We constantly hear how schools are short of funds and this is a great way for schools to save hundreds of pounds thanks to the generosity of parents, and the children who are happy to share their books with another student.
Please send a link to this blog to your school head teacher and get the ball rolling.
Thank you.
