Jon Davey has been asked, and accepted, the role of Community Manager for Driven Forward’s Community Fridge in Windsor by Tiia Stephens (Founder) and Fran Maunder (Chair of Trustees).
The role of Windsor’s Community Fridge is to minimise food waste by taking the surplus foods that retailers would otherwise have to waste and finding happy consumers.
This is not about giving food to those on limited budgets. They are obviously part of the consumer mix but it is more about finding consumers who hate to see good food go to waste.
Tiia gave up her role as a Community Warden in 2019 with the aim of setting up Driven Forwad’s first Community WellBeing Hub but that had to go on hold as the community’s needs changed before her eyes. Providing meals for the homeless during Covid gave her insight into the amount of food that was being wasted.
A local business offered her a retail unit on a peppercorn rent and Windsor’s first Community Fridge was born at 181 Oxford Road, Windsor near Windsor Boys School.
Visitors to the Community Fridge make a minimum donation of £3 to cover running costs and walk away with a basket full of goodies.

Food is rescued 7 days a week from local retailers by a team of 20 volunteers. The Community Fridge is open 11am – 12:30pm Tuesday to Friday and pop up shops are provided at Sawyer’s Close twice a month on a Saturday, which are open to anyone, and Broom Farm, for army families & residents only, on Sunday & Monday.
With the Community Fridge proving popular, Tiia is keen to relaunch Driven Forward’s Wellbeing Hub and so Jon is coming on board to assist with running the fridge and use his business knowledge to help make some improvements.
Jon commented “I’ve been involved in community projects for years in Windsor and having found myself with some time on my hands after the recent elections, I posted a note online and Tiia emailed me straight away! I have known about the Community Fridge since it began and I am looking forward to seeing how I can be of service.”
Fran’s thoughts are “With exciting new projects on the horizon for the Driven Forward Community Fridge with the launch of Tiia’s long awaited Community Wellbeing Hub, it will be great to have Jon and his expertise on board to help us grow the charity.”
Tiia added, “Driven Forward are very pleased to welcome Jon to the team as the Community Manager for the Community Fridge. He is well known within the local community and has a breadth of knowledge and experience which will be invaluable in promoting the work of our charity.”
Thank you.
