Memories of Windsor Castle – An Appeal to Their Majesties

Having read a number of posts relating to concerns over the Royal Collection Trust’s plans to start charging local residents entry into Windsor Castle it would seem this is, as yet, not a done deal and the pros and cons are being seriously considered by their senior management team.

When asked for my thoughts on social media I had suggested a “considered approach”… 24 hours later I have a suggestion for Windsor residents, which was seeded by a conversation with Helen Price who said she was going to write to the King as Patron of the Royal Collection Trust.

We should all, young and old, write to the King & Queen sharing our “Memories of Windsor Castle” and ask them nicely to have a word with their people and see if they can find a better way.

A suggestion for the Royal Collection Trust team… how about if us locals committed to popping into the cafe when we visit. Or if the cafe is too busy, buying a small gift for a friend from the souvenir shop. That would be a nice way for local people to say thank you and support a local business, would it not?

If you could post your “Memories of Windsor Castle” to the address below and let’s see if we can encourage a change of heart.

Their Majesties The King & Queen, Buckingham Palace, London. SW1A 1AA.

Or email bookinginfo@rct.uk, FAO The King & Queen

Thank you.

  1. So sad to think that local children and parents will be denied this perk. It helped make my children feel proud to be part of the community etc. Have lived here 50 years and a visit was a treat for them.

  2. With money being so tight for so many people living in windsor and maidenhead it’s a nice place to go with or without children, it’s a lovely affordable day with a picnic, and some outside game, this is going to stop alot of enjoyment for alot of people. It’s hard enough making ends meet and treating children to days out. Not everyone can go to legoland, Thorpe Park, swimming etc.

  3. I am a Windsorian of 77 years, born and bred and am very proud of our royal heritage. As a child we often wandered into the Castle for free, mainly to see the soldiers and the Queens doll’s house. I also remember when the East Terrace gardens were open to visitors and we were privileged to see Princess Diana with William and Harry as young boys, rolling down the grass slope on the far side! In later years, we have visited quite often using our free pass, with visiting family and friends, acting as their tour guide! We also visit 2/3 times a year to see new exhibitions, Christmas, etc. Please, please do not take away our free residents pass, in all honesty, if you do we will not be visiting and I doubt if our visitors will either!

  4. As a resident taking my international family there – many times a year- is a proud thrill and a pleasure that I will no longer be able to afford …it is so sad !
