Week 3 – Windsor Candidates Answer Resident Questions
Residents were asked “What is your question for our Windsor Candidates?” 16 Windsor residents replied with 40+ questions asked via the official form.
Week one, candidates struggled to keep to the three minute limit so we let them flow more week 2 but some preferred the boundaries!
So for week 3, Tuesday 11th June…
- We asked the questions last Friday allowing them the weekend to work out their responses
- Each candidate had 7.5 minutes to respond to all the questions below
- The questions are typed out below and I am asking them in the video
- How much time and focus candidates choose to give each question and the order they respond is down to them

Many people feel unsafe in the town, especially those in the LGBTQI+ community. We aim to introduce a safe space scheme to show that businesses, councils, and public buildings do not tolerate homophobia and welcome everyone. Given the previous lack of support from Windsor’s main MP on issues like same-sex marriage and the Equality Act, would you support this initiative and if so how?
What are your views on the conflict in Gaza. Do you believe war crimes have been committed and individuals called to account? What do you believes needs to happen for future long-lasting peace?
Why have we so many homeless (including rough Sleepers) in windsor and what will you do to reduce and ultimately eliminate them?

As you know, it is against the law to pay anyone less than minimum wage. How comes pensioners get paid far less than minimum wage to live on.
Most local authorities are being financially crippled by unfettered demand for Adult and Childrens Social care. Yet they do not have the ability to raise enough revenue to meet that demand.
What will you (or your Party) do to resolve the funding issues for Councils that the current system causes?
Which Party will Parking re introduce the Advantage card parking discounts ?
Which Party will cancel the 2nd car permit charge increase ?
Vale Road parking issues with the car sales company and Mosque, which party will introduce Residents only parking / introduce yellow lines/ or have parking warden on patrol giving out tickets especially on Fridays when the people attend Friday prayers park their cars wherever they like and illegally causing chaos and a potential risk to life.
Traffic light congestion and air pollution at the bottom of imperial road with st Leonard’s and the lights at the Prince Albert pub are not fit for purpose, they need to be roundabouts -Which Party will re asses these junctions as a matter of urgency.
Which Party will financially encourage better shops to the High Street/Windsor Yards for local Residents like a butchers fishmonger Primark etc. No more coffee shops, souvenir tat shops, phone repair shops and cash only Turkish barbers etc.
In the Windsor constituency there are 100s of people who are languishing on the housing list, there are even more people being charged extortionate rents by private landlords.
What will you or your party do to ensure that housing is made truly affordable for all residents and that the cost of housing in the local area is not out of reach for local born people?
Will you be able to commit to funding the flood channel to include Datchet, Old Windsor and Wraysbury in the River Thames Scheme to help prevent flooding in these areas?

Given the numerous eateries, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops and others which have proliferated in our town over the years,
How do you propose to tackle the worrying rat infestation which is currently plaguing Windsor?
Why am I voting for a windsor and Maidenhead mp when my council tax and decisions about my area will be made by Surrey?
All candidates say that they will fight for the electorate of Windsor, but specifically what would they do in practical terms to achieve this if elected?
There are 650 MPs in the House of Commons, most of whom will be making similar pledges to their constituents. Whether you are an Independent, or a member of a party forming the Government with a huge majority, how would you make Windsor’s voice heard, amongst all the other hubbub?
Why do you think you should be selected for the MP for Windsor?
According to the Marie Curie charity, “Over three million people will die in the UK over the next five years, and 90% of them will need palliative care. But right now, services and staff are stretched to their limits.”
Question: How will you make sure those in our constituency get the care and support they need at the end of life?
How will the candidates address the housing crisis in this area? Not just social housing – With the average 3 bed house having rent of £2200 in this area you’d have to earn £66,000 as a household. More people are finding themselves renting – these aren’t people on benefits but working people. What will you do about the insecure tenancies – landlords can give tenants two months notice despite tenant having a two year contract. This means more people are moving away as they cannot afford to live here.
Please define “ working class “ it would help when choosing who to vote for.
