We are told that Sir Barry made a significant contribution to the community fundraiser back in the day to secure Alexandra Gardens as a safe space for local people to enjoy the air.
Pollution was rife and hygiene a big issue back in the late 19th Century and in the early 20th Century Sir Barry MP, his wealth reportedly generated from African resources, came to the rescue of the people of Windsor.
Later they became more formal gardens and it’s this journey through time and space we are looking to evidence and bring together in a formal report.
Working with The Berkshire Garden Trust, local historians and those interested, we look to have something worthy of RBWM serious consideration by early 2026.
If you’d like to help with the process or have some documented evidence to support this project then please make contact.
Thank you.
