ALDI got planning permission to build a store on the proviso that they limited the number of deliveries and delivery times would be considerate to visitors to the Old Farmhouse. At the time a guest house but sadly no longer. I believe in the future there are plans for mental health patients to use the Old Farmhouse for restbite care.
The wording for the condition, and associated reason are set out below:
CONDITION: The service deliveries by any vehicle used for commercial purposes shall only be made between the hours of 0700 and 2200 Monday to Saturday and only on a Sunday, Bank or Public Holiday between the hours of 0900 and 1700. Only two deliveries per day shall be carried out by articulated lorry Monday to Saturday with only one delivery by articulated lorry carried out on a Sunday or Public Bank Holiday.
REASON: To protect the amenities of adjoining occupiers and in the interests of highway safety and the free flow of traffic. Relevant Policies – Local Plan NAP3 and T5
Now, a few years on, they want to tear up those considerations and have as many truck pulling in and out of the store as they can… the lorries constant loud beep, beep, beep while reversing interrupting the peace and tranquiluty that the Old Farmhouse once offered those hoping for a traditional English vacation!
ALDI is seeking to vary Condition 5 of planning permission ref. 20/01145/FULL to allow for extended delivery hours and unrestricted number of deliveries per day at the Dedworth store.
