Rotary Youth Speaks 2023

Another amazing Windsor & Eton Rotary Youth Speaks event with a twist…

Because, for a number of reasons, we only had two teams enter this year’s Rotary Youth Speaks Competition, from different age groups, we were able to hear what the judges had to say.

Normally we have 3 judges who go off and discuss the various teams, pick a winner and return to share their thoughts, for around 5 minutes, on that year’s entries before making the winner known.

This year, because both teams will get through to the next round by default, we had Trevelyan Middle School compete against Windsor Boys School and our 5 judges shared their thoughts on each speaker, giving the speakers far greater insight into what they did well and how they could do better in the next round.

All our competitors appreciated the feedback and now they’ll go to the next round, better equipped to win through to the national finals on 23rd April 2023, thanks to…

Richard Allen – Chair of Judges

Richard is head teacher at The Green Room School and while he seemingly does very little according to his profile on the school website 😉 his team does a excellent job of inspiring young people who struggle in mainstream schooling.

Mary Fraser – Children’s Development Coach at Poppyfields

Ravinder Sahota – Head of Economics at Langley Grammar School

Joshua Askey – RBWM Youth Councillor

Veronica Stabbins – Rotary Polio Purple Finger Champion

So I guess you’ll want to know who won the competition on the night?

Trevelyan shone through to beat their seniors. What an amazing job 😉

Rose Williamson was a very able chair, engaging the audience with her broad smile and professionally approach to proceedings. Dagan Drahota spoke for the Death Penalty and Dillon Behan against.

The District round is in Reading on 2nd March, followed by another round before the National Finals.

Purple fingers crossed for both our teams 😉

Thank you

Jon Davey

Chair of Youth Committee
