The Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Conductor and Musical Director, Joe Davies. With a First Class Honours degree in Music from Oxford and a Master’s in Conducting from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Joe was selected from 51 applicants for the post.
‘In the end it was an easy choice’, says the orchestra’s Chairman, Frances Jones. ‘We sifted the applications down to a shortlist of ten to call to interview; it was obvious then that there were three outstanding candidates who we should audition, and Joe then won the clear vote of the members’.

Joe Davies is thrilled to be appointed as Conductor. ‘WMSO are a brilliant orchestra, full of talent and energy, and I’m delighted to join the team. They’ve given me a wonderful welcome and I already feel like I’ve been here for ages – I can’t wait for all the many exciting concerts we’ll have together!’
Joe has been rehearsing the orchestra since September and the players are all very excited too to perform their first concert under his baton, at 7:30pm on Saturday 29 November at the Baylis Theatre, Braywick Leisure Centre, Maidenhead SL6 1BN.
It is a blockbuster programme of Sibelius’s Finlandia, Elgar’s much loved Cello Concerto featuring 15-year-old rising star Kiki Skinner, winner of the WMSO’s Young Musician Concerto Competition 2024, and Shostakovich’s iconic Fifth Symphony.
A landmark performance, not to be missed. Tickets, £15 or £5 for students / children, are selling fast from www.wmso.org.uk. Book yours now before they are all snapped up.
