At the end of June we invited community groups and local organisations to take advantage of Tesco’s Foyer during August to find volunteers.
We constantly hear that community groups are short of volunteers and so wanted to do what we could to support them.
The Opportunity Knocked… a few stepped up…

I’d like to celebrate and underline the power of the opportunity Tesco’s foyer offers with this example…
Kristien came into Tesco, under his own steam and asked to speak to someone about collecting money for his project. He’s taking part in Berkshire Scouts international community project to be held in Malawi during July–August 2024. The projects in Malawi are part of a Berkshire Scouts educational programme supporting young people, mainly through refurbishing rural primary schools, as well as other local community buildings.

We normally let organisations have a day in the foyer but being a parent, I like to encourage young people who show initiative and are brave enough to step outside their comfort zone by knocking on our door and so agreed to a weekend collection.
The first weekend he raised over £300 but I knew with one big push our customers could get him over £500 so gave him a few words of encouragement and the option of another day’s collection.
He’d learned from the first weekend, honed his skills and allowed more collection time this Saturday and took his total well over £550 😉 Generating more than 25% of the funding he needs to pay for a once in a lifetime experience in Malawi next summer by asking for help from our very generous Windsor customers.
Kristien was very pleased with the results of his efforts… “Thank you for all your help, please pass this on to your customers for their generosity as I am very grateful.”
A BIG THANK YOU to all who helped him 😉

If you have an interesting story that customers can get behind then contact me. This might be collecting a few pounds in a bucket to finding more volunteers, a new trustee or corporate sponsor… you choose your mission, we have the space to help local community groups.
Thank you.
