If you’d gone down to the fridge today you’d have been in for a big surprise. We had a visit from RBWM’s Mayor Cllr Neil Knowles who took time to share stories with our visitors, regulars and new food rescuers.
Tiia, who started the fridge as lockdown hit, when she saw so much food going to waste and felt compelled to help Windsor residents, shared how the fridge works with the Mayor.
Stock items carry 0, 1 or 2 points and visitors can have up to 5 points for a minimum donation of £3. This generally means they walk away with a couple of bags full of food that can be enjoyed over the next couple of days.
All the major local supermarkets donate to us at the end of each day, local bakeries bring us high quality loaves, local residents drop off food from their allotments and we get calls from KFC to add to a wonderful selection for our fridge rescuers to choose from.
The Mayor spent time outside talking to visitors and inside behind the deli counter putting in a shift and was really pleased he had taken the time to do so.

You can volunteer anytime and in fact, since you put in a real shift today, you are officially a volunteer like Jean and Don who have just joined us to help get food to Woodey’s in the Pirate Park where we are now sending some of our fresh produce that hasn’t been rescued from the fridge on a Tuesday & Wednesday.”
“I hate seeing food wasted and so have engineered processes that ensure we minimise wastage from what we receive and that involves working with many individuals and organisations in the town. A BIG THANK YOU to them all.”
