WINDSOR LIONS’ PROSTATE CANCER EVENT REINFORCES NEED FOR SCREENING PROGRAMME
The members of Windsor Lions’ Club are still amazed by the overwhelming response to their 5th Prostate Cancer Screening Event which was held at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 26th April. The free event attracted over 1,000 men for a PSA test to detect any signs of Prostate Cancer.
The ‘traffic light’ reported results have been quite stark: 860 Greens (all clear), 118 Amber (seek a retest/further investigation from your GP), 95 Red (contact your GP immediately for medical advice/investigation).
This startling figure of 20% needing more exploration, exceeds previous events.
Event organiser Diane Purchase spoke about the event and the results: ‘ This is why we stage this event – there is a huge unmet need for prostate screening. We have received many emails from grateful men who have been alerted to possible problems that would otherwise have remained undiscovered. We are passionate about it and so grateful to all the partners who helped us to stage this event,- from the fabulous team at Ascot Racecourse to our commercial partners The Shanly Foundation, Savills Estate Agents, Grundon, Parkside Healthcare, Berkshire Community Fund, Ascot Fire Brigade Trust, The Prince Philip Trust, PHS Services and all the fantastic nurses who gave up their Saturday to take the blood samples, along with the many volunteers from both Windsor Lions and the wider community.
