“Lives Well Lived – Older Men in Focus” Men’s Matters Photographic Show 2025

Men’s Matters is a social wellbeing group for older men based in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. It grew out of a men’s cookery class set-up by a local housing association in 2015. It became a registered charity in 2017, with the late Sir Michael Parkinson as its patron. It has grown to having two vibrant groups meeting weekly with 50+ members.

This photographic exhibition, at the Nicholson Shopping Centre Thursday, Friday and Saturday 29th May to 21st June, highlights the rich and varied lives of its members—men whose experiences stretch from the end of World War II through decades of dramatic social and technological change. Some served in the military during National Service; many have raised families and built careers in fields such as engineering, science, the arts, publishing, education, finance, business, and public service, including work at Windsor Castle.

Now retired, these men remain active, engaging in hobbies, volunteering, and leading community initiatives, including Men’s Matters itself. Ian’s compelling portraits reveal the resilience, wisdom, and character etched into each face—offering a rare window into a demographic often overlooked in modern society.

The exhibition aims not only to recognise the achievements of older men but also to spotlight their ongoing value and potential contribution to society, encouraging a broader appreciation of their presence and continued relevance in today’s world.
