A powerful and uplifting photographic exhibition celebrating the lives, stories and everyday resilience of local older men is set to take centre stage in Windsor this December. Following its highly successful debut at Maidenhead’s Nicholson Shopping Centre earlier this year, Lives Well Lived – Older Men in Focus returns for a month-long showcase at The Old Court Artspace, St Leonards Road, Windsor, from 1st to 31st December 2025.

Mens Matters Living Longer Living Better

Organised by Men’s Matters, a local charity supporting the social wellbeing of older men, the exhibition features striking portraits and personal stories that shine a light on the experiences, talents and contributions of men aged 60 to 96. The show offers a rare and refreshing perspective—one that celebrates age rather than shying away from it.

The photographs were taken by freelance photographer Ian Longthorne. Each photograph beautifully captures a different perspective of each man.

”I met the Men’s Matters group over many years, through working as the staff photographer for the Maidenhead Advertiser. Working with Paul Samuels and Tim Walker the portraits were shot over several sessions at both the Maidenhead and Windsor group meetings. Each member was photographed in black and white but with different lighting to show their character and individuality. It was great to meet all the members and I hope the chaps enjoyed the photoshoot. We had a great response to the Maidenhead exhibition earlier this year and I am looking forward to seeing the photos up at the Old Court in Windsor.

The Windsor display continues the project’s mission: to challenge stereotypes, promote positive ageing, and spark important conversations around men’s wellbeing. The 2025 Maidenhead exhibition drew hundreds of visitors and widespread praise for its honesty, warmth, and emotional impact. Now, Men’s Matters is bringing that same spirit to Windsor in time for the festive season, offering residents a thoughtful and inspiring cultural experience.

The exhibition is free to explore throughout December during The Old Court’s opening hours, allowing visitors to drop in at their leisure. With Windsor busier than ever over the holiday period, organisers hope the show will reach a wide audience—from families enjoying a seasonal day out to older residents seeking connection and reflection.

Tim Walker, trustee and lead of Windsor Men’s Matters, said the response to the original Maidenhead exhibition exceeded all expectations.

“Visitors told us again and again how moving it was to see older men represented with such dignity and positivity. Many of the men featured in the exhibition said it gave them renewed confidence and a sense of pride. Bringing this exhibition to Windsor feels like the perfect next step —we want as many people as possible to see these incredible stories.”

Men’s Matters runs weekly social wellbeing groups across Windsor and Maidenhead, offering activities, friendship, and a welcoming space for men aged 60-96. Organisers hope the exhibition will not only inspire visitors but also encourage older men in the community to reach out and join one of the Men’s Matters groups.

Lives Well Lived – Older Men in Focus runs from 1st to 31st December 2025 at The Old Court Artspace, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3BL.

Admission is free and no booking is required. Please check with the Old Court Artspace for their opening times during December: https//oldcourt.org
