Road Repairs Gallys Road, Dedworth, Windsor
Gallys Road (Clewer and Dedworth West) – micro asphalt works (Marbeck Close to A308) – Monday 14 to Friday 18 September 2020 – 9am to 5pm.
So the above was in the Highway’s weekly update but what does that mean?
I found me an expert… Kenny, foreman on the job…
Under the bitumen there is concrete… the concrete keeps moving and breaks the bitumen over time… they’re digging out the cracks, doing the necessary repair and covering over.
That’s all that is planned at this time.
Thank you.
Jon

IT’S CALLED REFLECTIVE CRACKING AND OCCURS WHEN YOU LAY A FLEXIBLE MATERIAL ON A RIGID MATERIAL. CRACKS IN THE RIGID MATERIAL EXPAND AND CONTRACT AT A DIFFERENT RATE TO THE FLEXIBLE MATERIAL. HENCE THE CRACKS EVENTUALLY PULL THE FLEXIBLE MATERIAL APART. THIS THEN ALLOWS INGRESS OF WATER AND LATER FROST WHICH THEN MAKES THE CRACK WORSE.
