Healthwatch East Berkshire
My name is Steve Sansom and I work for Healthwatch East Berkshire as the Volunteer Lead and Officer for RBWM in a small team of 4. Healthwatch is exactly that; a Health and Social Care Champion for any individual and organisation to contact with their related issue. Some of these we log onto our CRM and use as anecdotal evidence in our meetings with NHS Decision Makers and Budget Holders to question them on various topics. Issues that we have been commissioned to gather feedback include GP Access, NHS Hospital Waiting Times and Services for Asian Carers across RBWM. We can also signpost any queries to sources that will be able to support the resolution of an issue, and we perform inspections called ‘Enter and View’ of locations such as Care Homes. Healthwatch has prioritised engagement and networking as 2 key activities to raise the profile of our branding. I am a facilitator for the award winning ‘World Cafe’ pop up social events programme that is co-organised by the Community Team at RBWM. Our participation in this has created a vast network of health, wellbeing and social care stakeholders, and we have made contact with 2000 individuals and organisations in the last 10 months at over 170 meetings and events (F2F or online). This coffee morning has been another prime opportunity to engage with new stakeholders and set up networks to support the community. We stipulate that the more the community knows about us, the greater quality and quantity of information we can collate to enhance better health and social care.

Kerith Community Church

‘revive’(community projects) co-ordinator for Kerith Community Church in Windsor
We run a Windsor Foodshare distribution point and run a weekly parent & toddler group ‘Sparklers’.
Attached are details of 3 new initiatives we are launching in Windsor this January. All are available to all, free of charge, hosted at Kerith Community Church on Dedworth Road.
- CAP Money is a 1-day course on Saturday 14th January – help for budgeting and helpful tips for managing money at this difficult time. You can find more details and register here: bit.ly/3unkzLx
- ‘Hope In Depression’ is a fantastic 6-week programme commencing on Wed 25th Jan which provide practical support to those suffering from low mood or anxiety, and also those supporting loved ones through those challenges. - Each Sunday afternoon the church hall will be open as an “open living room” offering a warm space with a warm welcome.
Later in 2023 we intend to open a Children’s contact centre to provide a safe space for non-custodial parents to meet their children.
I appreciated the opportunity to meet representatives of other community-focused groups, understand what they are doing so I can support them, and share what Kerith are organising – and seek support to communicate and raise awareness of that.
Support to promote awareness of our initiatives is required immediately as our money course is running on Sat 14th Jan & ‘Hope in Depression’ commences on Wed 25th Jan.

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service

Where are you from? Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service
What does your organisation do for the community? Provides specialist support to children with life-limiting an dlife-threatening conditions, and their families, in Berkshire and the surrounding areas.
Why did you attend today? To meet with fellow community leaders and look for opportunities to spread awareness of our children’s hospice service.
How can the community be of assistance? The need for our service has never been greater, we currently support over 150 families but research shows that there are currently over 1,300 children in Berkshire that could benefit from a service like ours. The community can help us to spread awareness of our cause and find ways to raise vital funds to ensure we can provide our service to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions in our local community.
When do you need the help by? Our need for help is ongoing, but with the current economic climate the cost of our service is only going to increase.

Windsor Christian Action
Who are you? Lesley Bushnell
Where are you from? Windsor Christian Action – Incorporating Windsor Foodshare, Windsor Homeless Project, Windsor Street Angels, More than a Shelter
What does your organisation do for the community? WCA supports vulnerable people in Windsor and surrounding areas, so that they have access to help, food, a safe base, and a bed for the night, as well as the opportunity to start the process of rebuilding their lives.
Why did you attend today? To raise awareness of WCA and our projects, meet with other groups and charities, and understand how Tesco can help us and the local community.
How can the community be of assistance? We are always in need of funds for our projects, in particular we need to raise funds for the renovation of our new HQ 73a Alma Road.
When do you need the help by? Ongoing

WINDSOR TALKING NEWSPAPER (RCN 271879)

The Windsor Talking Newspaper provides a weekly recording of news articles contained in the local newspapers; the Royal Borough Observer, the Windsor & Eton Express and the Maidenhead Advertiser. We do not just read articles about Windsor. The articles read cover the full area of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, that is from Wraysbury in the east, to Maidenhead in the west and Ascot and Sunninghill in the south.
The recordings are issued weekly on a USB stick. We visit and give instructions to our Listeners as to how to use a simplified device which plays the recording on the USB. We loan the listening device free of charge to our Listeners for as long as they are using our service.
The weekly recordings (USBs) are delivered in bright yellow plastic envelopes which have velcro strips and so are easily opened and closed. When the recording on the USB has been heard by the listener it is returned to us free of charge in the yellow envelope by posting it in the Post Box.
Our service is designed for those who are Visually Impaired on a permanent or temporary basis. The feedback we have received from our Listeners says that they appreciated being able to stay in contact with what is going on locally. Some of our Listeners listen to the recordings when they are visited by family and or friends, as the articles often provide a topic for discussion. We also provide the ability to listen to each weekly recording via our website.
