Help with Dementia in Windsor

Did you know that in RBWM there are estimated to be 2123 people with dementia and by 2030 that number will be 3021!

I’ve just come back from the launch of the Dementia Friendly Royal Borough at Braywick Sports Centre, ably launched by Steve Sansom from Age UK Berkshire.

Around 80 people interested in Dementia, a mix of professionals, local government and volunteers were in the room to hear the latest statistics, network and discuss solutions to current problems.

Paula King from King Homecare has created this very useful guide for those looking to understand the dementia journey…

It’s very important for us all to get out and about, meet & talk / network with real people in real time about subjects that we are interested in for no other reason than it keeps your brain active, which seems to be one of the biggest problems…

Did you know that 7.5% of those diagnosed with dementia are under 65… and 40% of those with dementia go undiagnosed!

While being busy in day to day life, take time to have conversations with other people as it will help both of you in more ways than one.

Cllr Helen Price reinforced the core message of the Dementia Friendly Royal Borough event, “If you suspect you or a loved one has dementia then the important FIRST STEP IS TO GO TO YOUR GP for a proper diagnosis.”

I finally met Peter Haley today, CEO of People to Places who I have spoken to on the phone, emailed but only met for the first time today. On the 1st August 2014 I published this blog that flies high on google for hiring a mobility scooter in Windsor.

If you would like to be involved with / find out more about Steve’s initiative, email him and say hello Steve.Sansom@ageukberkshire.org.uk

Thank you.
