Windsor Lions Club
Windsor Lions Club is a group of friendly volunteers, male and female, young and old, from many different careers and backgrounds. We use our spare time to run fundraising events, lead welfare initiatives and donate the money raised to make our community a better place for all.
The Club is part of Lions Clubs International, which has 1.4 million members in over 200 countries, making it the largest service club organisation in the world. Because we are local, we serve the unique needs of the communities in which we live. As we are global, we can address community challenges wherever they occur.
We distribute the funds we raise to deserving causes and serve the community by supporting local people in need. Some of the areas in which we have recently been involved include youth projects, Senior Citizens groups, Mencap, FoodShare, provision of sports facilities for the handicapped and holidays for the elderly.
What one of our volunteers looks like…
The Club holds one Business Meeting each month, which members are expected to attend whenever possible. An informal Dinner Meeting at a local restaurant is also held monthly.
Every member sits on one of the Club’s main committees. The Community Services Committee evaluates requests for help and organises fulfilment of these requests, while the Activities Committee organises fundraising activities throughout the year. Members are always encouraged to give their inputs on existing projects as well as suggesting ideas for new ones.
Members also help to run the activities organised by the Club. These include the annual Horse Ride in Windsor Great Park, the annual Swimathon, and various other fundraising events.
Members also get involved in the local community, for example by evaluating and fulfilling requests for welfare assistance, helping at a party for senior citizens, clearing gardens, assisting at Windsor Foodshare or escorting groups of MENCAP members to their social evenings.
If you would like to help in the local community and have fun while doing so, please get in touch!
