Established since 1958, and opened by H.R.H Queen Elizabeth II, The King George VI Day Centre and Lunch Club provides a safe and friendly environment where members are encouraged to maintain their independence and wellbeing, through meaningful activities and social interaction. Some of our members are brought to the Centre, and delivered safely home, in our minibus; others come independently.
While at the centre, our members enjoy tea, coffee and biscuits, lively conversation and stimulating activities. To keep our members active we hold weekly, optional, seated exercise classes. Each day, a two course freshly-cooked, nutritionally balanced, lunch is served which, of course, meets individual dietary requirements.
Throughout the year, we have visiting live entertainers and host seasonal parties for members. Our on-site hairdresser is available every fortnight in our purpose-built salon and a chiropody service is available on-site every 6 weeks.

What one of your volunteers / supporters “looks” like…
Our volunteers are at the heart of our organisation and are of all ages and come from all walks of life. Some have only a little time to spare, some have a lot.
On a typical day, they will greet members and settle them in with a warm drink and biscuits, encourage conversation and the opportunity to share news. They may lead creative crafts or quiz sessions, teach flower arranging or call a bingo session.
Volunteers help with the serving and clearing away of lunches and seeing member safely onto the minibus.
We have a great team of volunteer minibus drivers, but are always keen to recruit more so we can have excellent coverage. Drivers should be under 74 with a clean current driving licence and a caring attitude.
Volunteers not able to contribute regular time can also be a great help with fund raising activities, selling raffle tickets and supporting in other ways behind the scenes.
