These guys have worked tirelessly for the local community ever since the estate was built and they will continue “while they have breath in their bodies”
KINGS BIRTHDAY HONOURS 2026
- BEM (British Empire Medal)
- Awarded for “hands-on”services to the local community.
- Donald Richard Todd. For services to the community in Windsor, Berkshire.
- Jean Mary Todd. For services to the community in Windsor, Berkshire.
Two of our most important and distinguished West Windsorians and residents across Windsor and the Borough – congratulations to Jean and Don on receiving this recognition for their decades of tireless and exemplary contributions to our community!!
In 2022, Don planted the first tree in the new planting project at Sutherland Grange, now numbering close to a thousand and another piece in the efforts to rejuvenate natural environment and biodiversity, at a site whose acquisition 50 years ago was made possible by another distinguished West Windsorian, the late Jamie Jamieson.
Cheers to them all.

How wonderful that Jean and Don’s tireless support for our local community has been acknowledged at the highest level. They always say yes with a smile, whether its picking up and delivering crates of food for the Community Fridge or delivering leaflets for the KGVI Day Centre.
Cllr Helen Price
Both Jean and Don have bern integral members of our local community for over sixty years. During that time they have helped with the formation of running of the local community centre since its inception in the mid 1960s, participating in community events including Long Tennis well into their Eighties. Jean in particular has been a long term committee member of the New Windsor Community Centre (NWCA), mobilizing support and helping to rescue it from closure.
Both Jean and Don as founding members of the West Windsor Residents Association (WWRA), they have campaigned vigorously on a number of issues including a 40mph speed limit on the local A Road, aircraft noise from Heathrow and more recently the formation of a town council for Windsor. Some sixty years later they continue to walk the streets delivering leaflets, attending community forums, planting daffodils and talking to the community about the latest local issues.
Their energy and enthusiasm are an inspiration to the local community and this award would be richly deserved. Jean and Don Todd are true community champions.

As a family, we are all so very proud of Jean and Don, who could not be more deserving recipients of these honours. For over 60 years they have given their time freely and selflessly to serving the communities of Dedworth, Clewer, and Windsor, throwing themselves wholeheartedly into volunteering and fundraising activities as well as being at the forefront of campaigning on many local issues. Now, at nearly 90 and 92 respectively, they are still absolute stalwarts of the local community, helping friends, neighbours and those in need in any way they can with cheerfulness, enthusiasm, and an energy that would leave many people half their age standing. They continue to volunteer at Windsor Foodshare several times a week on a regular basis, collecting and delivering food donations in the local area. They regularly visit and run errands for friends and neighbours who are housebound, in hospital or other care settings and who would otherwise have limited help or social contact. At an age when most people would be forgiven for putting their feet up and taking it easy, there seems to be no stopping them! And we couldn’t be any happier that their hard work has been recognised at the highest level. Congratulations, Jean & Don! With love from Ian & Jane, Julie & Chris, and all the family
Our grandparents are kind and are always considering the needs of the people around them, nothing is ever too big an ask. They’ve always been there for their family, friends and community and up for a laugh or a glass or two of wine.
Whether at the community centre, bowls club or the Community Fridge, going above and beyond is just what they do. They love community in all senses and have dedicated their time to supporting it over the years. We grew up watching them bringing people together and providing support and spaces for people to enjoy. We even helped at times, even if we were often too young to understand the importance of what we were doing!
While they never did anything with the goal of achieving recognition, it’s been really lovely to see how valued they are by the wider community, and we can’t wait to celebrate this huge moment with them. With love to Nan & Grandad from your grandchildren.
During the 20 years we have lived on Gallys Road, Jean and Don have been a kind, generous, and supportive neighbour from the very first day we moved in. No matter what we needed, they were always willing to help, and nothing was ever too much trouble. Their warmth, selflessness, and dedication to those around them have made a lasting impact on our neighbourhood. We are incredibly proud to call them both our neighbour and consider ourselves fortunate to have known them for so many years. Eddie and Lily Miller.
So well deserved.
Jon
