Infrastructure Overview & Scrutiny Panel Monday, 20th July, 2020 6.15 pm

5G Works at LeisureCentre

If you are interested in the 5G debate then please make yourself available to watch Councillors discuss the Infrastructure Overview & Scrutiny Panel Work Programme for this year on Mon evening, 20th July, starting at 6:15pm on LIVE on Youtube.

The Chair & I asked for any subjects that Councillors would like us to investigate and the full list can be found by clicking the Work Programme Suggested but not yet Programmed link on the RBWM Agenda page.

Should the panel agree then we will be looking for residents to be part of and Task & Finishing Group set up to dig deeper into the topic.

WORK PROGRAMME SUBMISSIONS – Suggested but not yet programmed

Here is my proposal to the panel…

How will 5G, AI, ML, IoT and Big Data be used for the benefit of residents & businesses in RBWM?

AI – Artificial Intelligence
ML – Machine Learning
IoT – Internet of Things

Many businesses are getting excited by the potential of new technologies and digital innovations. How are we going to evolve the infrastructure to help local businesses make the most of the future potential while addressing the natural concerns many residents have? The concerns are around the potential health risks these new 5G frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum may bring and in relation to how personal data, shared to facilitate AI, may be used.

I’d like to propose there is need for a Task & Finishing Group to identify:

– The key benefits
– Primary concerns
– Options that address both for the benefit of residents & businesses in RBWM

I’d suggest the T&F Group bring the findings to the O&S Panel on 19th January 2021 for further discussion.

Thank you.

Cllr Jon Davey
Clewer & Dedworth West
Vice Chair of Infrastructure Overview & Scrutiny Panel
