Huge Reduction in Complaints

Spring is in the air on Whiteley this morning, grass recently trimmed back, bunds looking green and the daffodils are standing tall… not as tall as my sunflowers will mind 😉

When I first became a Councillor I received constant complaints about the state of our grass areas in parks and green spaces around the area. I asked questions of lead officers and lead members but nothing seemed to change.

I spotted overspends which I asked questions about at Full Council. The Tories found it humorous that I should be concerned about overspends!

All systematic of a broken system.

A couple of years ago, a new lead officer came in to sort out the contracts, another to lead on Place. Contracts had historically been issued in a very loose way giving far too much power to contractors to swing the lead.

As Shadow Lead on Place for the Independent Group I have been having regular monthly meetings with senior officers and have shared residents concerns while watching the steady progress in improving the service response of contractors.

Look at it now… I get a fraction of the calls and emails on this than I once got because the work is getting done, the contracts are being managed more professionally and that means we can all spend more time enjoying the green spaces thanks to new senior officers at RBWM.

I’m hoping the new highways contract will be as tight and we’ll start noticing improvements in the months to come.
