A BIG THANK YOU Elections 2023

After the last couple of months I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me in whatever capacity. Especially Ali who let me run again…

The election process can be a very hard and emotional process for all involved. The more energy you put in, the more you feel you need to do as you don’t want to miss something.

I get that but after a life in sales, I know that if you come across as being desperate for votes, then it will work to your detriment as others smell the fear and vote for another. Also people hate to be sold to and so nagging them as they are going to the polling station will be a double negative. As for canvassing the streets… how many people do you know like to be disturb mid Corrie or worse still, during the day when they are on a conference call.

Far better to let your actions speak for you.

Work let me put up a board so customers could find out more about the candidates and that has worked well, appreciated by those that have used it. The boss wanted to light the store up with VOTE JON neon lights but HO wouldn’t let him 😉

I had thought that we couldn’t promote ourselves on election day, as we couldn’t last time, so I had planned to work first thing, walk the dog and then get some rest for a long night ahead.

Spoke to Helen yesterday, she said how she was planning this and that for today, I said we can’t, within the hour she sent me a note about this year’s rules… the Conservative she beat last time is standing again and Helen, who lives 3 houses from him, has been working on her campaign for 6 or 7 months. I created the image above to show my respect for the lady who constantly works hard for the Windsor community, leaving no stone unturned when on a mission 😉

When I saw the election boards going up it made me want to join in but I had promised Ali I would run a low key campaign, as she didn’t want me lost in a world of electioneering for 2 months, she wanted us to have a life too, so low key it was… I used to make 100 phone calls a day from that garden shed until I could afford a proper home office.

I did a couple of things to amuse myself and one strategic move…

If the boards are about the last thing you see before you go into the polling station but they can’t be on the polling station land or council property, where to put a couple of posters? On the house fence opposite obvs… I had created a few A4 sheets to use and figured they’re not proper boards!

I knocked on the house door, the lady answered and I asked, “How’s your sense of humour?” She smiled I explained the election and my competitor had a post in the garden to the left, so could I put a couple of posters on her fence… she said yes… I said thank you 😉

I put posters up night before because of what I thought the rules were. They were still there this morning! Bet the lads were pleased it wasn’t raining on the fire engine.

Jean had the WWRA board in her garden, she is a pillar of the community and has been helping everyone for many years. I asked her if I could also put a poster up. Course you can Jon but no board 😉

Had a poster left, Alan popped in the shop last night and I asked if he was happy to have mine too. Sadly some oik has removed it but hey these things happen, probably a super fan wanting a memento of the day 😉

Then Robin’s generosity just finished things of nicely… thanks for letting me photoshop it in mate 😉

Now for a few hours kip before the big event.
