Summer Solstice BELIEVE Community Celebration Sat 21st June @ The Swan

The second of this year’s quarterly events, following on from our Community Champions EXPO on the Spring Equinox, where 20 community groups shared their work with 80+ community minded individuals who took the time out of their busy day to attend the expo.

The Summer Solstice is the time to reflect on the energy put in to encourage growth during the spring. A time to be patient and BELIEVE that our efforts have been enough to allow the Summer Sun to work its magic and bring forth a bumper harvest 😉

12:30pm – I Love Windsor CIC will get the day started by sharing how the Windsor Directory of Community Groups & Charities has been helping many local people connect and find solutions. While some use it to find volunteering opportunities and ways to help their local community, others need it when they are feeling lost, to find solutions to problems they are encountering and are unsure of who to turn to for help. How can we be ready to help those who will need help next… Could that be you or a member of your family? Help fund the 2nd Edition of the directory.

1:00pm – The Natural Environment – We’ll hear from members of Wild Windsor, Windsor Cycle Hub and Windsor Riverwatch about how they are helping the community better connect with the natural environment. From bat watching, to healthy cycle rides and cleaning up our rivers, it’ll be an interesting hour for those who appreciate nature. Why do these people do what they do for nature and the wider community?

2:00pm – Cllr Jodie Grove, one of the new Cllrs, a community minded wife & mother, will share her story of growth over the last few years. How she has listened to the community and brought ideas to try to make things better for the Windsor community. What inspired her to BELIEVE and start helping others?

2:30pm – Fair Trade. Taking an International turn, Dianne Redvers will share how we can help those in far off lands to make the world a better place. Often outta sight, outta mind as we just grab the cheapest product off the shelf to help our purse or opt for our favourite tasting product, with little thought of the process of how it got on the shelf in the first place. Why should we care?

3:00pm – Jack Rankin MP on the power of Self Belief. I asked Jack to speak on how he empowers himself. How he kept on fighting after being knocked back, coming 2nd in two elections, in Ashton-under-Lyne and Warwick & Leamington before winning the Windsor seat in 2024. This is not about politics but how he kept BELIEVING that he would finally win through.

3:30pm – Men’s Matters – Getting out of bed each day can be a chore in itself. Men are particularly rubbish at sharing their feelings and will tend to just exist after a certain age unless given a reason to power up, get out of bed and do something useful instead. How do we help men BELIEVE that they can add value to the world? Telling a good story can help. Are you sitting comfortably, Tim Walker will tell a tale or two…

4:30pm – Rafiq Chohan can’t stop BELIEVING. He’s retired more times than he can remember but that fire inside keeps burning. Twenty years ago he was Assistant Director for Economic Development and Inclusion at Slough Borough Council. Today his LinkedIn profile states Business Adviser | Helping Business and Charity Thrive | People | Service | pro human rights anti genocide | Markets and Marketing | User Experience | Finance. Come and be inspired… BELIEVE me, he’s a ball of inspirational energy 😉

5:00pm Open Forum – have you got a story you want to share or questions you want to ask? Step up, ask the forum, use the wisdom of others to feed your passion so you too can BELIEVE and take action.

7:00pm Windsor & Eton Pride – Steve and his team will be sharing their story of BELIEVING in community, in themselves and their event. They will do this through storytelling, through words sung and spoken, sharing their movie and “A list” celebrity friends. It’ll be a blast, come, listen & learn how to BELIEVE… 

8:00pm It’ll be MICKY TIME – How to run a community boozer and become one of, or just may be THE No1 TOP licensee in the UK. Fingers crossed he’ll have bagged this little beauty during the week and the flagship moment of our event will be Micky sharing how to TRULY BELIEVE 😉

We’ll be raising money to fund the 2nd Edition of our Windsor Directory of Community Groups and Charities. We need £2k to print circa 400 copies, A5, 130+ pages as we have 110 groups now listed online (80 in current hard copy) and more will step up before we hit print. The more we raise, the more we’ll print… £8k gets us 2,000+ copies…

The directory is about finding sources of help. For older people who struggle with physical actions, online is not always an option, a hard copy is so much easier to navigate.

The directory is not something you want to need but should your world change in an instant, it would be a very useful tool to help navigate towards those that can help.
