Devolution Taking a Year Out & Why We Need a Windsor Town Council
How much has the Devolution project cost the nation?
Government starts talking about Mayors, we have a few, they want us to have more as it will link in nicely with the 86,000 mayors across Europe.
Some councils have gone legal and hence the delay on railroading it through.
While council officers jostle for position, polishing their CVs for the new unitaries, they are less focused on the day job… and I don’t blame them as they will mostly have mortgages and dependents needing feeding and the latest Xbox… but this essentially means little gets done!
The Government’s only real argument is economies of scale… meaning one contractor will treble their business and find more ways to skim the cream, while officers are more disconnected from the needs of residents as the diversity of the council area gets broader and more complicated, with fewer officers per capita.
The only positive I can see out of making the 2nd tier bigger is the lowest tier of Parish and Town Councils become more important. They will be the ones who will have to get things done.
And this will not be parish councillors banging their fists on the cabinet tables of unitaries but parish Clerks being strategic in their approach, making the best use of their Cllr resources while building rapport with senior officers.

Others, more appreciative of Government processes will understand but may not agree, let’s talk about it…
The reality is, for Windsor to be a player of the future it will need to have a Windsor Town Council, so please complete the consultation… which feels like it has been designed to fail but I ask you to take 20 mins to fill it in…
If we don’t have a Windsor Town Council it will end up simply being the castle surrounded by vape shops, cafes and all the grand buildings will become cheap hotel rooms…
