As you are likely to know, the emerging Bracknell Forest Council Revised Growth Strategy (Local Plan) includes a large housing development proposal for Jealott’s Hill in the Metropolitan Green Belt. You are also likely to be aware of concern among local communities who are directly affected, and those who perceive they will suffer knock-on impacts such as a significant and potentially unsustainable increase in traffic. We are also hearing more widespread disquiet from around Bracknell Forest, and beyond its boundaries.
It is heartening to see the wider community concerned about Jealott’s Hill. It affirms the purpose of the Green Belt as everyone’s ‘countryside next door’.
Given the concern, CPRE Berkshire is holding an Open Meeting at 7.30pm-9.30pm on Friday 24th January 2020, at Warfield Primary School (Woodhurst site) on Sopwith Road, Warfield, RG42 6BR.
We are fortunate to have Richard Knox-Johnston, a noted advocate of the Metropolitan Green Belt and Chairman of London Green Belt Council, and Chris Turrell, Executive Member for Planning and Transport, Bracknell Forest Council, as our two main speakers.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide a forum for local residents to consider the impact of the proposed development in relation to the importance of retaining Metropolitan Green Belt land, and ask questions they may not have had the opportunity to do at the Council’s consultation exhibitions. Richard Knox-Johnston brings a huge depth of campaigning experience for the protection of the Green Belt. In addition, we welcome Chris Turrell’s commitment to explaining the Council’s proposal to include a large-scale housing development at Jealott’s Hill, as part of their Revised Growth Strategy plan. We are hoping for a respectful debate, which will include Q & As, and to that end the meeting will be chaired to keep the discussion moving along in a courteous manner.
Given the potential impact of the development in the Clewer and Dedworth West ward (emailed to me but relevant to all residents interested), we wanted to give you the opportunity to attend the meeting. Please let me know by Thursday 23 January, either directly, or addressed to Gloria Keene, Branch Secretary, via the main office (details below) to help manage numbers.
I am also pleased to attach the event flyer, please do feel free to circulate it, should you feel it appropriate to do so.
With best wishes
