I recently post this blog about the first six months as Tesco Dedworth’s Community Champion
When I applied for the role I thought it would be nice to have a bit more variety in my work but it is so much more than that.
I have been able to help many local people and community groups since becoming the Community Champion and find it very rewarding.
MAKING BEST USE OF THE FOYER
25,000 customers a week come through the doors and everyone has to walk through the foyer to get in and out of the store, giving any organisation presenting itself there essentially two chances to make a good first impression.
Encouraging local community groups to take up the opportunity to use that space is part of my role as it is the best gift I can give them. I only have a small allowance which is useful but helping them make the most of the foyer space is so much more.
Writing this, creating a “Making a Good Impression” training module has to be a project for the summer… not like that, like that 😉
COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS’ COFFEE MORNINGS

We are currently hosting two coffee mornings each month which enable local community leaders to connect, share their stories and find help with a current issue.
They are well attended and enable me to join dots when I hear what someone needs help with, I can then connect them with someone I know who might be able to assist and that feels great.
In Rotary we have a phrase of “Service Above Self” which means we get far more from helping others than we do from helping ourselves and I believe that is true for most of us, many simply don’t realise it yet.
THE HOLISTIC APPROACH
Taken from Google “A holistic approach means to provide support that looks at the whole person, not just their mental health needs. The support should also consider their physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.”
More on that tomorrow in the final part of our series…
