Resident Question – What do the candidates understand by the word ‘independent’?

Independent definition – Free from outside control not subject to another’s authority.

What independent means to me and why it is important to be truly independent.

  • Independent doesn’t mean you are alone. I am part of the Local Independent Group along with most other Independent Councillors. This helps democratic services with the formal processes but doesn’t limit our ability to vote based on our own decision processes.
  • Independent councillors can call on each other for support as needed. For me that is usually as a sounding board, to debate a topic to help challenge & strengthen my arguments before formal council meetings.
  • Independent councillors are free to form their own opinions, we are not whipped to vote a certain way.
  • Independent candidates can focus on acting on the interests of their community with no wider political agenda.
  • Independents councillors research topics thoroughly in order to inform their argument. Sadly, in a party dominated environment their arguments are not always heard and decisions voted through tend not to be evidence based but simply along party lines.
  • Independents can say what’s on their mind so you know where you stand facilitating frank and honest conversations & debate on a variety of topics.
  • Independents can research subjects without worrying about treading on toes, enabling them to dig deeper enabling more informed decision making.

As the ONLY true Independent standing for Clewer & Dedworth West I would appreciate your vote on Thursday 4th May.

Thank you.
