Windsor Writers Group Young Writers Awards 2026
A flock of young seagulls, a litter of young lion cubs, a gaggle of eastern geese, a horde of hamsters, a brood of young things, a posse of sharp minds, a clutch of desperately frustrated powerless caring humans gathered at the Old Court yesterday evening to share their words with their peers, their parents, their mentors, a gang of older folk, a crew more middling and Mike with the mic.
This writers’ colony got our brains a whirring at the Windsor Writers Group Young Writers Awards 2026
Some read out loud… some wanted to shout… I felt their frustration…
I’d arrived early and bumped into some folk I knew in the bar… fasting, I enjoyed a glass of water with those who had obviously been supping for a while.
“I need to do something” “Look a Palestinian flag, why are the other businesses across the street not flying the flag” “Why do we need flags” “It’s NOT RIGHT!!!” “When South Africa refused to change apartheid, the world said CHANGE or we’ll not support you.”
A number of the young speakers shared thoughts, frustrations, concerns, anguish about the troubles in the Middle East… not only with the troubles but their lack of power to even voice their concerns about what’s going on… go on a march, get arrested, get a record, forget your career, forget getting a mortgage!
What’s the geography of this part of the world?

All I can come up with is don’t go on holiday to America… don’t give the few dollars you have to those who are making the most $$$ out of, and could do the most to impact and change, the situation.
What’s your take and how do we help our young things feel more powerful?
Thank you.
Jon
